Print to PDF Not Useful for Redactions

On page 142 and again on page 157, the book says that printing to PDF removes the text layer of a PDF and suggests this could be a useful way to redact information from a PDF. Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be true; the text layer is retained and can be searched, selected, and copied. The only way to simulate the true redaction features of PDFpen Pro and Acrobat Pro would be export the PDF to an image format like PNG or TIFF, open that file, and then convert it back to PDF. Only then is the text layer truly removed, after which obscuring the graphical representation of the text with a black box becomes an effective way to redact text.
