Friday Report: January 19, 2024

This week we released a new edition of Glenn Fleishman’s Take Control of Wi-Fi Networking and Security and smaller updates to my Take Control of iCloud and Take Control of Apple Mail books. Next in my personal queue is a new edition of Take Control of Automating Your Mac, followed rapidly by updates to (in alphabetical order) Take Control of 1Password, Take Control of Backing Up Your Mac, Take Control of Sonoma, Take Control of the Mac Command Line with Terminal, Take Control of Your Digital Legacy, Take Control of Your Paperless Office, and Take Control of Your Passwords. The order in which they’ll be released is still TBD, depending on several variables, but I hope to get at least four of those out before the end of the month.

I did not order an Apple Vision Pro today! The more I learn about it, the less interested I am. Give it a few years and maybe I’ll feel differently, but for now, I have many (many!) other things that would be a better use of that spare US$3,500 I just happened to find between the couch cushions. We have no plans for a Take Control book about the Vision Pro or visionOS.

Monday will be the second one-day teachers’ strike in the province this month, and there will probably be more because the impasse between the teachers’ union and the Ministry of Education is showing as much potential for resolution as Masimo vs. Apple. We are, of course, 100% on the side of the teachers, and yet, not having our kids in school is The Worst Thing Ever. So, you know.

Stay warm! See you next week.
