Friday Report: May 6, 2022

This week we held our big “#5” sale, which was extraordinarily successful! We sold roughly 8,000 books in five days. Thank you very much to everyone who took advantage of the special prices, and enjoy your books! There are, as always, plenty more in the pipeline.

I was shocked (but delighted) to learn that Amazon is finally planning to support EPUB on Kindle devices, and phase out MOBI support by August. Dealing with MOBI files has been a huge pain, and I be happy to put those days behind us. To be clear, we won’t make any changes until Amazon has updated their Send to Kindle apps on all platforms to support EPUB. But, once that happens, we’ll be able to eliminate MOBI files from our site, emails, FAQs, and production process! That will simplify things for our customers and for us. Finally!

Another piece of news this week: 1Password 8 for Mac finally shipped, after about nine months in beta testing. Like many people, I had serious misgivings about the new direction the app was taking, especially in the early part of the beta process. But, having used the final version for a few days, I’m relieved to say all those worries were unfounded. It’s fine. Better than fine, in fact. It’s downright nice! It is not perfect, and I do still have some minor gripes, but on the whole I’m extremely pleased. I will, of course, be updating Take Control of 1Password to cover the new app, but I can’t as yet say how quickly I’ll be able to do so.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. See you again next Friday!
