Friday Report: March 8, 2024

Last weekend we had a near-record snowfall here in Saskatoon of something like 40 cm (about 16 inches). That was on top of the snow we had gotten from a storm earlier in the week. And then temperatures took a dive, reaching around –30°C (with a wind chill significantly lower). Saskatoon announced an unprecedented snow day for schools on Monday (irrelevant for us, since elementary schools were closed anyway for a teachers’ planning day). Five days later, many roads, especially in residential areas, are still in rough shape. People just walk outside, look around, and shake their heads.

On account of the Snowpocalypse, I spent about six hours shoveling over the weekend (and more since), and what with that, the day off school on Monday, a short school day today (due to ongoing job action by the teachers’ union), having to compile a mountain of tax-related info for our accountant, and interruptions for various appointments and meetings, I’ve gotten little productive work done this week. I made a bit of progress on updating Take Control of Your Passwords (which I hope to send off to my editor by the end of the weekend) and talked with a couple of authors about in-progress or future books.

Warmer weather is predicted for the coming week, and I remain optimistic that we’ll soon have another big round of new and improved titles to share with you.
