Happy Black Friday to those who celebrate it. This is traditionally, of course, the day when all good American consumers drive to the nearest mall to start on their Christmas shopping, since (as the day after Thanksgiving) it’s a day off work/school for most people. Except that malls are so 20th century and most of us buy most things online whenever we want them anyway. So it’s really just an excuse for people who sell things to offer discounts in the hope of making a few extra bucks.
We here at Take Control Books are nothing if not hopeful, so we’re participating too. We can’t top last month’s 20th anniversary sale, but we’re doing a smaller-scale sale. All upgrades (from an older edition of a book to a newer one) are an extra 25% off, and our build-your-own bundle discount (which normally gives you an automatic 30% discount when you buy three or more full-price books at once) now gives you a 50% discount on any two or more full-price items. That’s it! Nothing flashy, but people seem to be digging it. The sale runs through the end of November.
Because we’re in Canada now, we celebrated Thanksgiving in the conventional way back in early October, but in keeping with our longstanding tradition, we went to Denny’s yesterday and got the turkey dinner. Close enough!
See you next week.
