It's working for me
01:03 PM | |

Is there a "full screen" button that should be there (using Safari on iMac)-- don't see it on lower right....
herman
sound is gone
01:04 PM | |
Tonya Engst
I'm in Safari and I don't see a full-screen button either. Perhaps if you click the YouTube button in the lower right and the try from there.
Herman, try reloading and clicking Play again.
Charles De Poalo
good day to all!

01:05 PM | |
Bruce Shultes

I can confirm that it does work using Chrome on an iPad4. Now I will go back to my Mac Mini.
Joan
not working on ipad 2 in chrome which switched me to iTube, not working there either... Now on iMac.
01:06 PM | |
Tonya Engst
Herman, also try switching to YouTube - you should see a button for that at the lower right of the presentation - hover over the video with your mouse to see the controls.
Adam Engst
There's a link to YouTube below too!
Herman
i can hear it now

Well, hello, Ry. :-)
01:09 PM | |
RY GLOVER
Good to be here.
Tonya Engst
The show notes have even more detail about why Joe recommends these - he'll also be giving more info/demo during the presentation.
01:12 PM | |
Mac Carter
Can we get a copy of Joe's slides?
01:18 PM | |
Mary Tod
How did that Safari iPad thing work? That went by too fast.
Tonya Engst
Mac, I'll check with Joe after the show, but I don't see a problem with sharing the slides.
01:19 PM | |
Adam Engst
Basically, you start a Wi-Fi service on your iPad, then load a specific page on the Mac, Mary.
Tonya Engst
Mary, you can go back later and watch it again, too.
Adam Engst
Christine, try the YouTube link below, or make sure other things aren't running on your Mac or Internet connection.
01:22 PM | |
Joan
Hi,
01:24 PM | |
GrandpaChris
Great colour and sound!
Joan
How do you know if the app supports Dropbox?
no sound
HOw can you use dropbox if you don't have wifi access all of the time. Does the iPad keep a copy you can work on and then it updates when you do get a connection?
01:25 PM | |
Tonya Engst
Joan, no sound, I'm keeping your questions handy to ask Joe during the Q&A session.
Joan
Thanks, Tonya
01:26 PM | |
Tonya Engst
Actually, Joan, I can answer yours... to know for sure if an app can use Dropbox, you'd have to check its documentation or ask the developer.
Sheri
Is there a way to view and/or access documents on an iPad when you're offline? Dropbox is great but if you don't have online access, you can't view, edit, etc. your documents.
01:28 PM | |
Christine Stream is being interrupted ever 5-7 seconds. Anything I can do? It's painful.
I did go to the YouTube link. Same streaming problem. I'm giving up
Adam Engst
Christine, you might try restarting your browser or your Mac to clear things up.
01:29 PM | |
Sheri, the iTunes approach is always possible offline
01:30 PM | ||
Tonya Engst
Sheri, with Dropbox, if you mark a file as a Favorite, it will be stored locally on the iPad, so you can access it even if you are offline.
01:33 PM | |
Joan
Doc Management does it work with Circus Ponies Notebook?
01:34 PM | |
Tonya Engst
You would mark it as a favorite from within the Dropbox app on the iPad. The Dropbox help (on the iPad) has a topic about how to do this.
Adam Engst
Joan, that's a good question for Joe - we'll ask.
Joan
Thanks
01:35 PM | |
Sheri
Can you work with a document if you have it as a Favorite in Dropbox or is it just for viewing? And how does the Favorite "get" from Dropbox to the iPad if you don't have an internet connection?
01:36 PM | |
Charles De Poalo
HAVE ISSUES WITH STAYING CONNECTED. When will this session be available on tube??
01:38 PM | |
Adam Engst
As soon as it's done, Charles.
So about 20-40 minutes.
Judi Alvis
I have downloaded Kindle app on my iPad mini, but can no longer mark in the book. Would I be able to use PDFpen to do that?
01:39 PM | |
Joan
How did he get scanned sigs into the iPad?
Tonya Engst
Sheri, you might have to have an Internet connection at some point in time in order to transfer the file(s) from Dropbox in the cloud to the iPad itself. But you could do that just once.
01:44 PM | |
Or, depending on the filetypes and what other software you have on the iPad, you might be able to move the file from some other app to Dropbox.
For example, you can move a PDF from Safari to Dropbox. But, you'd have to be online to get the PDF into Safari.
Sheri
I generally need to view or edit Word documents, which is why I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to do this. I don't know of an app that helps with Word documents.
01:45 PM | |
Tonya Engst
Sheri, I'll put that into the Q&A list for the end of the presentation. I think Joe will have an idea for you.
01:46 PM | |
Sheri
Thanks very much.
Allen Watson
Can you scan in one and pass that to the one that OCRs?
01:53 PM | |
Tonya Engst
Allen, I've queued your question for Joe.
01:54 PM | |
Joan
Unrelated question: Can you forward delete somehow?
01:57 PM | |
Richard
I recently purchased PDFPen and tried to load about 30 pdf documents from iTunes onto it. Would not accept them, would load only about 5-6. Contacted tech and they did not seem to have an answer. Have you run into this?
Joan
In text editing...
01:58 PM | |
Mac Carter
Dumb question... I now have Good Reader and have opened a pdf on my iPad, but I do not see how to close the pdf file and get back to Good Reader's main page.
01:59 PM | |
Eolake
Does Dropbox or GoodReader only sync when they are in the foreground on the iPad?
no sound
Is iWorks a good replacement for Word and Excel or is it better to stick with the Office Suite?
02:00 PM | |
Chuck
Everyone seems to recommend GoodReader. I find it so complex and clutterd with menus buttons etc as to make it unusable Am I doing something wrong? Is there a dummies mode?
02:01 PM | |
Mac Carter
It's tap and hold for a second!
02:02 PM | |
Jeff S
Mac: Single tap in the center of the screen, you should get a tab with the file name at the top of the screen with an X for closing the file. To get back to your documents top left corner has "My Documents" button
Tonya Engst
It's not a good demo if something doesn't misbehave! ;-)
02:03 PM | |
Bruce Gerson
Hate GoodReader for this very reason. Completely arcane and non-compliant interface.
Mac Carter
Thanks. It seems you need to tap and hold your finger on the pdf doc for a moment and then the main menu comes up.
do these iPad pdf apps, for example, have user manuals to download
02:07 PM | ||
Allen Watson
I find that a single tap in the middle of the screen will bring up Goodreader's controls.
02:10 PM | |
Joan
Will they make a mouse that works on the iPad?
Tonya Engst
Joan, Adam and I both think that the chances of Apple making a mouse for the iPad is very, very low.
02:12 PM | |
Mac Carter
Good job!
Will G
Thanks, guys! Good show.
02:13 PM | |
Joan
Thanks folks, I wish the show was 1.5 hours
Judi Alvis
thanks
Tonya Engst
We hope to have the updated PDF available well before dinner time here in upstate NY.
Adam Engst
Thanks everyone!
Just getting Joe backstage now.. :-)
Glen McAllister
That'd be 6pm UTC, then :)
Tonya Engst
We'll send email when the show notes are available or you can click the Check for Updates button on the cover of your existing PDF at anytime to check to see if they are done.
Joe Kissell
Hi everyone. Thanks for participating! I'll have to go back and read all this later…
02:14 PM | |
Adam Engst
Yeah, we have to keep Joe away from the chat during, or he'd be answering questions nonstop and trying to talk. :-)
Glen McAllister
I found the chat distracting, so I went full screen. Thanks guys.
02:15 PM | |
Adam Engst
That's right, Glen, 6 PM UTC... :-)
Chuck
Great. So much cleaner looking than the first and better flow. Meatier also. However, I'm vegetarian.
Thanks!
RY GLOVER
Thanks so much, Joe, Adam and Tonya. A great session.
02:16 PM | |
Adam Engst
Chuck, it will still taste great, either way...
Joan
Oh! Sometimes when Joe would switch between the PC and the iPad, I didn't know which device he was on. Also, when configuring airprint, do you download it from the app store on the Mac first? Missed that part...
02:19 PM | |
Joe Kissell
Joan: If you're using an AirPrint-compatible printer, there's nothing to download. For other printers, you can use an app called Printopia. More info in show notes.
02:20 PM | |
Joan
Oops, I meant Printopia. Download to Mac first?
Joe Kissell
Yes!
Joan
Thanks! Great show. Much to absorb and so little time!
02:21 PM | |
Joe, BTW I'm realy impressed that you moved AND got this sll together so well for today.
02:22 PM | ||
Joe Kissell
Thanks :-)
02:23 PM | |
Joan
Have a great weekend
